Mankind’s Future Episode 6

Climate Change

Last time I said I would explain about how the climate changed. But first I want to mention another matter.

Scientists are in general agreement that at one time there was only one land mass which they called Pangaea. What they are not agreed upon is when and how quickly it split into the continents we know today.

The majority, looking at how slow ‘continental drift’ takes place today, believe it must have happened over millions of years.

Every year the world’s rivers carry thousands of tons of mud and dump it in the sea just beyond the river mouth.

If the continents separated slowly, then there should be evidence of this mud stretching across the ocean floor, but there isn’t any.

This leaves other scientists to believe the separation of the continents must have happened quickly at the time when most of the mountain ranges came into being.

The writer of Psalm 104 tells us that there was a time when the mountains were covered with water but then the mountains rose up and the valleys went down.

Genesis 7v11 says that “all the fountains of the great deep burst open”. Scholars regard the ‘fountains’ as volcanoes under the sea.

So how did that effect the climate?

In 1815 Tambora, a volcano in Indonesia, erupted and every month the following year Europe had snow causing the death of thousands through starvation.

The fountains of Genesis 7 would spew ashes into the air, blocking out the sun, causing the land to cool. Volcanoes also spew out large amounts of water at incredible temperatures causing the seas to be warm.

This combination would create the conditions for multiple snow storms every year, thus taking ‘ice cores’ cannot determine their age.

It would also make possible the ice age which would take several centuries to recede.

Prior to the Flood mankind’s diet had been vegetarian.

In Genesis 9:3 God tells them, “Every moving thing that lives will be food for you. I give you everything just as I gave you the green plant.

Only you shall not eat flesh with its life in it, that is its blood.”

Unfortunately the Bible doesn’t tell us why God now tells man he can eat meat, whereas before he couldn’t.

To live healthy lives we all need to consume vitamins.

Dieticians and scientists have surmised that perhaps before the Flood there were plants which produced all the vitamins needed in sufficient quantities but are now extinct.

Of thirteen important vitamins, meat provides them all, and five of them are found in appreciable amounts in eggs alone.

Apparently vitamin D and B12 are only found in meat.

Consequently vegetarians, along with others, are encouraged to take vitamin supplements rather than rely on a natural diet.

The Apostle Paul, writing to Timothy 2,000 years ago, “The [Holy] Spirit clearly says that in the last days some will . . . pay attention to seducing spirits and teaching of devils, speaking lies . . forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from foods, which God has created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth.”

Marriage has come under attack particularly since the 1960's with a dozen laws being enacted leading up to the same sex marriage act of 2013.

Throughout the history of mankind the family had provide a measure of stability to society but now, in the Biblical and natural sense, it is seriously undermined to the detriment of future generations of children.

With the current fears about climate change, there are already those who are forbidding the eating of certain foods, namely meat, just as was prophesied 2,000 years ago.

Today, we live in an age where, instead of using technology to water the deserts and plant trees, we are told not to eat meat.

Now read Genesis 11:1-9

V9 tells us they journeyed east, without telling us why. Could it be that the winds from the east were warmer and that attracted them?

V4 shows they were afraid of being scattered, but God had told them to fill the earth, not to all live in one place.

They also wanted to make a name for themselves - a sign of pride, which is a form of idolatry.

Since they wanted their tower to be really high, it seems as though they didn’t trust God’s promise to never flood the whole earth again.

In confusing their languages God’s purpose of the earth being filled was going to be accomplished.

As the different families scattered over the earth this would naturally lead to “inbreeding”.

Thus the different characteristics of the various ethnic (family) groups would become more noticeable.

We can see this, not only in skin colour, but eyes and many other features, some of which are not visible to the naked eye.

The Apostle Paul reminds us there is only one ‘race’. In the Book of Acts 17:26 he says all nations of men are of one blood.

Even atheistic scientists who once taught that some ‘races’ were superior to others now confess we all come from a common ancestor.

The Bible points out that not only Adam and Eve were our first ‘parents’ but we are also descended from Noah and his wife.

Anthropologists have concluded that the multitude of ‘tribes’ in the world originated from about 70 different ‘families’ similar to that recorded in Genesis 10.
